Mini NMR machine coming to Scotland!
As of March 2016, the University of Edinburgh will receive a desktop NMR spectrometer (60 MHz NMReady 60e by Nanalysis). This instrument does not require cryogens neither electricity for its persistent magnet. You can simply plug it in and measure proton NMR spectra or run kinetics experiments. Furthermore, the spectrometer takes standard 5mm NMR tubes, just like a standard NMR spectrometer. In the next months we will bring it to high-schools, undergraduate teaching labs and industrial research labs across Scotland. What better way to learn about NMR than via hands-on experience with a cool piece of kit!
The spectrometer will be showcased and lent to high-schools and companies across the country. Schools can use it as a teaching aid while industrial researchers will have a chance to discover how powerful and accessible this technique is.
It is also envisaged that a number of visits to Scottish chemistry undergraduate laboratories will take place to demonstrate how easily such a technique could be incorporated into the teaching curriculum.
