NMR GROUP MEMBERS
Post Doctoral Researchers
Patrick Boaler
Patrick joined the Uhrín group in March 2022 and is working to further improve the group's SHARPER methodology for use in reaction monitoring and complex mixture analysis.
Patrick completed an MChem at the University of York, with a final year project in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry supervised by Prof. Kevin Hodgetts at Harvard Medical School. This was followed by a PhD in physical-organic and supramolecular chemistry at the University of Edinburgh, completed in 2022 under the supervision of Prof. Paul Lusby and Prof. Guy Lloyd-Jones FRS.
Outside of the lab, Patrick enjoys playing the euphonium in various brass and wind ensembles.
PhD Students
Richard York
Richard is funded by the E3 DTP, an Edinburgh based doctoral training partnership who fund environmental research. Richard will be researching new methods of isotopically labelling complex mixtures, specifically peat soils for the improved analysis via high resolution NMR and Mass Spectrometry.
Richard obtained a Masters degree from the University of Edinburgh, undertaking his final year project with Dr Nicholle Bell, working on the solid state analysis of peat soils attempting to distinguish between a restored and damaged site.
When he isn't working, Richard's main interest is in music and is a member of the Edinburgh University Brass Band.
Marc Stockwell
Marc graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a MChem in Chemistry with Forensic and Analytical Chemistry and currently holds the status of Registered Scientist (RSci) and is an Associate Member of both the Royal Society of Chemistry (AMRSC) and the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences (ACSFS).
Marc is funded by the Scotch Whisky Research Institute studying Scotch Whisky by Advanced Spectroscopic and Spectrometric Techniques with a particular interest in NMR, FT-ICR-MS with Chemometrics.
Outside of university, Marc enjoys road cycling, playing guitar and piano along with collecting comic books.
George Peat
George is working on advancing the methodology of solution-state NMR spectroscopy with a particular focus on translational work into the field of benchtop NMR.
George graduated from Durham University in 2019 with a Masters degree in Chemistry, undertaking his final project with Professor Paul Hodgkinson using solid-state NMR to investigate cation dynamics in MOFs.
In his free time, George enjoys hill walking, reading and going to the pub.
Justinas Sakas
Justinas is working on improving the methodology of high-resolution NMR and MS for the analysis of complex mixtures.
Justinas obtained a Masters degree in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh in 2020. He carried out his final year research project at ETH Zürich (Switzerland) under the supervision of Professor Renato Zenobi working on breath analysis using SESI-MS.
In his spare time, Justinas enjoys travelling, baking bread and cycling.
